I love aesthetics and shallow as it may seem it’s true to say I am 95% aesthetically driven. There’s something about beautifully things that are just so damn beautiful. Thus it’s relatively fitting I have spent quite alot of the past two weeks getting further aquainted with the more technical side of visuals. No no, I haven’t abandoned life in favour of actually pen to paper or even mastering adobe, illustrator or the like – instead it’s been more in the mind and in the eye and well, data driven.
The beauty of good visuals is that they are often more than just aesthetically pleasing. They actually stimulate grey matter.
The above infographic created by David McCandless for instance has completely blown my brains both aesthetically and intelligently.
But then so have these coasters, for well different reasons…
I have been thinking about these Reebok trainers for MONTHS now, they almost cross the boundary of kitsch with both the gold and evil eye but they are also epically quite beautiful?
And as for these pieces, especially the cape from the Valentino pre fall 15 collection? It’s almost as though the night sky has been used to actually craft the clothes.
But it’s not just fashion and coasters and graphics, the below painting by Karin Mamma Andersson is replicated on my wall and has been for nearly a decade after I tore it from an art magazine and continues to make me both aesthetically pleased but also provokes me into thinking.
Finally, possibly the most beautiful packaging I have seen for a while… These lipsticks by Giambattista Valli for MAC aren’t released but they are in almost every blog I read and I can see why? Now if I was productively employed with cash to spend then I would definitely be looking to add these to my makeup bag, but life is life and woe is woe so I’ll just have to stare and dream.
